The old home's truest enemy.
We've been in our house for more than six years now, and we're still fixing problems that pre-dated our ownership. Part of these repairs arise from our own knowledge and growth, but also from the things that should have been addressed before we lived here. Deferred maintenance is really the truest problem with any home. In order to sell, there are plenty of owners who cover problems (This is especially true of typical flippers.). The biggest issue is this leaves problems to get worse over time, and small problems can become big ones very quickly.

We're officially over the hump with the One Room Challenge! Progress was made across the whole structure, with the body paint being completed and the trim getting work all the way around. I love the timeline of the One Room Challenge: each week I get a good sense of where I am with meeting achievable deadlines, and I can usually divide projects to make a lot of progress happen over the course of each week. Then, the little things add up to the big things!
The One Room Challenge invites designers, DIYers, homeowners, and anyone to make progress in a single space over six- or eight weeks. This is my fourth challenge, and I am definitely hitting my goals, and working to overcome setbacks as we go. There are so many others working on their spaces too: Check them week-by-week here! If you're just joining on the One Garage Project, get caught up with each week's progress: Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 I've alluded to our electrical woes a few times over the past year, but since I did very little in terms of working on the electrical, I have shared very little of what was going on. Now that it's time to button up the attic (and the insulation that was moved for the electrical), I figured it's as good a time as any to get write about our major electrical project this year. Last year, we upgraded our panel from 100 amps to 200 amps. And this finished upgrading all the wiring into the new -and much improved- system.
Welcome back to the One Room Challenge at the Garage! We are halfway through the eight-week challenge, and we have seen some weather-affected progress over here! Lots has happened, but not the big showy projects like the mural or the roof. There are so many others making strides on their projects as well! Check out the full set of one room challenge projects here!
If you need to catch up on our garage project, catch up with the posts from: Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 It was the week of the window over here! We had some weather that was incompatible with the paint progress I've been shooting for, but following the instructions for Sarco Dual Glaze, working on our window was definitely a possibility while we waited on the weather to turn warmer. This is just what autumn does in Minnesota: it ebbs and flows. In four days last week, we went from 80° F to 30° and back up to 60°. It's the end of the season for our vegetable garden, so it's time for us to do a little maintenance on the garden beds! We use the Vego Garden beds, because I like that they go really well with the designs we used in the backyard, and they are able to be altered and shifted to fit what we need. This is the second configuration, and while I plan to adjust the trellis situation, I do like how this layout works in our yard.
