Two big changes started this week, one of which was yet another in a long line of pivots for the house. But when the house speaks... we tend to listen. I made a ton of progress both on the restoration of the front window with the new jamb fully assembled, primed, and the exterior moldings cut. And I built the door for the bottom of the stairs. With three weeks left in the One Room Challenge, and these big pieces in the works, I'm feeling more confident than ever on getting this wrapped up on the eight week timeline. There are many other projects of different sizes and scopes to check out here!

Once again, this week was supposed to be the week of the door! Someday, I'll have that window glass. But there was still plenty of door-prep I could do this week. The doorway to the attic was once a wall in our dining room. In most of the bungalows in this area the stairs start in the dining room and run between a bedroom and the kitchen. Ours will do this when the door is in, but up until this summer, the stairs turned 90° and went into the little kids' bedroom. Not great for storage or moving things with sleeping toddlers. This summer, we closed the old door, and cut a door-sized hole in the dining room wall. More on that here. This week also marks the halfway point in the One Room Challenge, and wow, do I feel like I'm behind! I always pack some extra time into the end of the project, but this is even cutting it close for me. Still, I know the whole attic won't get done, but I did set out to insulate, frame, and finish the stairs. There are so many great One Room Challenge projects to check out this round! Browse how the other spaces are getting along, and check out some more details in the Instagram and TikTok feeds too.
To catch up on the attic progress, check out Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Attic Insulation: Part 1 This week in the One Room Challenge was all about catching up on what I had planned to do last week. With a cool head, and even cooler weather, I worked hard on finally getting Phase Two of the insulation up in the attic ceiling. Phase One was installing baffles and rockwool, all the details are here. Getting this going in the One Room Challenge has been really helpful for us to get this project wrapped before winter. With a huge hole in the dining room wall where the door will be, we definitely needed to get it going! There are a ton of other projects happening through the One Room Challenge. Be sure to check them all out here!
The attic theme this week was heat wave! I wasn't expecting my second week of the autumn One Room Challenge and the start of October to be in the 90s, so I didn't get as much progress done as I planned for this week. But, as always, I have contingencies built into my timeline. Since this is my fifth One Room Challenge, I know these projects can be unpredictable, and aside from being sidelined by heat, I was also sidelined with a migraine for a few days. It was a bummer! But it happens. For more on the overall plan of what we will get done this autumn as well as what we want to get done in the future, check out last week's post!
